Short answer: every Claude Team seat includes Claude Code. A Standard seat gets 1.25x Pro's usage per session, a Premium seat 6.25x, and both have a 5-hour session limit and a weekly limit. Limits are per member, never pooled. Standard costs $25 a month ($20 billed yearly), Premium $125 ($100 billed yearly).

If you're the developer on the team who lives in Claude Code, the seat type is the whole story. Here's how the two compare, and how they stack up against an individual Max plan.

## Standard vs Premium #

From Anthropic's [Team plan page](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/9266767-what-is-the-team-plan), read on 2026-10-22, US prices before tax:

| | Standard seat | Premium seat |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Price, billed monthly | $25 per member | $125 per member |
| Price, billed yearly | $20 per member a month | $100 per member a month |
| Usage per 5-hour session | 1.25x Pro | 6.25x Pro |
| Weekly limit | Yes, across all models | Yes, across all models |
| Claude Code | Included | Included |

The pricing page puts it another way: Standard gives "more usage than Pro", and Premium gives "5x more usage than standard seats". Same numbers: 6.25 is five times 1.25.

A few rules that apply to both:

- Minimum two members. Team plans start at two seats.
- Mix and match. Anthropic says organisations can mix seat types, so the heavy Claude Code users get Premium and everyone else stays on Standard.
- Per member, not pooled. "Usage limits on Team plans are per-member, rather than applied to the team as a whole." A quiet teammate's unused allowance doesn't top up yours.
- Fixed weekly reset. Weekly limits reset at a fixed time each week assigned to your account. You'll find yours under Settings › Usage on claude.ai, and our [weekly limit guide](https://shuriken.sh/guides/claude-weekly-limit-explained) explains how that window behaves.
- Shared with chat. Anthropic's [cost docs](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/costs) say a seat's allowance is shared with Claude chat and Cowork.

## When a seat runs out #

The seat allowance is the default ceiling. To let people keep going, a Team admin can turn on usage credits and set spend limits for the whole organisation, a group or one member. With credits on, a member without billing access can run /usage-credits in Claude Code to ask an admin for more.

One gotcha from Anthropic's [Team Claude Code page](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11845131-use-claude-code-with-your-team-or-enterprise-plan): the monthly API credits included with Team plans can't be used in Claude Code or the Claude apps.

### Which limit did you hit? #

Anthropic's [cost docs](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/costs) list the messages a Team member can see, and they mean different things:

- "You've hit your session limit" or "You've hit your weekly limit": your seat's own allowance is used up. It's shared across all models, so switching with /model won't help. The message tells you when the window resets.
- "You've hit your Opus limit" or "your Sonnet limit": a model-specific cap. Switching to a model outside that family with /model keeps you working.
- "You've hit your individual spend limit", or the organisation's monthly or team's shared budget: you were already on usage credits, and the spend limit your admin set is reached. Only an admin can raise it.

Recent versions of Claude Code can also wait for the reset and continue the interrupted task on their own.

### Checking your seat's usage #

- In Claude Code: /usage shows your plan's usage bars, and on paid plans, Team included, it also breaks down recent usage by skill, subagent, plugin and MCP server, with suggestions for cutting it. Press d or w to switch between the last day and the last week.
- On claude.ai: Settings › Usage shows your weekly reset time.
- For admins: the spend report in the organisation's analytics shows estimated usage-credit spend per member and per model, with a CSV export. Usage inside the seat allowance isn't metered in dollars.

If you're arguing for a Premium seat, a week of /usage breakdowns is better evidence than "I keep running out".

Shuriken shows what every plan you hold has left in one figure, and what each turn costs as it runs.

## Team seat or individual Max? #

If you're one developer deciding how your company should pay for your Claude Code, compare like with like:

| Option | Price a month | Per-session usage | Price per "Pro's worth" |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Team Standard | $25 ($20 yearly) | 1.25x Pro | $20 ($16 yearly) |
| Max 5x | $100 | 5x Pro | $20 |
| Team Premium | $125 ($100 yearly) | 6.25x Pro | $20 ($16 yearly) |
| Max 20x | $200 | 20x Pro | $10 |

The last column is our arithmetic from Anthropic's multiples. It covers the 5-hour session only; Anthropic doesn't publish how weekly limits compare across these plans.

What the numbers don't show:

- Different terms. Team is covered by Anthropic's Commercial Terms; Pro and Max by the Consumer Terms, per the [Claude Code legal page](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/legal-and-compliance). For company code, that difference is often the deciding one.
- Admin controls. Team gives your organisation seat management, usage analytics and spend limits for usage credits. Max is just you.
- Who owns it. A Team seat belongs to your employer. Leave the job and the seat stays.
- The ceiling. No Team seat reaches Max 20x's per-session usage. If one Premium seat isn't enough for you, Team has no bigger seat to move to.

So for a developer at a company: Premium if the company pays and wants it under commercial terms, Max 20x if you need more room than any seat offers and your company is fine with it.

## A Team seat plus a personal account #

Lots of developers have both: a Team seat from work and their own Pro or Max at home. That's two accounts, each yours to use, under two sets of terms. If both use one email, Claude Code can sign in to the wrong one; [switching between Team and personal orgs](https://shuriken.sh/guides/claude-code-switch-organization) shows how to check with /status and change it. Before you mix them, check two things:

- Your employer's rules. Some companies want company code only on the company seat. Some don't mind. Ask, rather than finding out.
- Which account touched which code. If the work seat runs out at 4pm and your personal plan picks up the work repo, that's company code on a personal plan, under the Consumer Terms instead of your company's ([what that changes for training and retention](https://shuriken.sh/guides/claude-code-personal-account-for-work)). Decide in advance whether that's OK.

### How Shuriken handles a Team seat #

Add the Team seat as a source, like any other account. Since Shuriken 3.0.3, Sources reads a Team seat's two limits, the 5-hour window and the weekly limit, and labels it as a Team seat, so you see exactly how much room it has next to your other accounts.

[Switching](https://shuriken.sh/features/source-switching) treats it like any other source: when the account in use reaches your switch point (99% by default) or a limit, chats move to the account with the most room. Shuriken only moves chats between sources you added. If work code has to stay on the work seat, don't add a personal plan to the same Shuriken account. If you're not sure, ask your admin first.

Shuriken runs on your own computers, never bills model usage and stores no code in our cloud, which tends to make the "can I use this at work?" conversation shorter. To see your seat's limits next to everything else you have, [download Shuriken](https://shuriken.sh/download) and add it under Sources.

## Frequently asked questions

**What are the Claude Code limits on a Team Premium seat?**

Anthropic says a Premium seat includes 6.25x the Pro plan's per-session usage, with a weekly limit across all models. The session limit resets every five hours, and the weekly limit at a fixed time assigned to your account.

**Is a Claude Team seat or Max better for one developer?**

Per unit of usage they cost about the same: a Premium seat is $125 a month for 6.25x Pro, Max 5x is $100 for 5x. Team needs at least two members and runs under Anthropic's Commercial Terms. Max 20x costs less per unit than either.

**Does a Claude Team standard seat include Claude Code?**

Yes. Anthropic says Claude Code is included with every Team plan seat. A Standard seat gets 1.25x Pro's per-session usage.

**Can a teammate use my unused Team allowance?**

No. Anthropic says usage limits on Team plans are per member, rather than applied to the team as a whole, so a quiet teammate's allowance doesn't top up yours.

**Can I use my Claude Team seat in Shuriken?**

Yes. Add it as a source. Shuriken reads a Team seat's 5-hour and weekly limits and names it as a Team seat in Sources. Check that your employer is fine with the tools you use on it.
