FAQ

Questions, answered.

In short Shuriken is a harness for coding agents: it runs Claude Code, Codex and the rest on your own computers and servers, keeps every account you have in use, and lets you follow it all from your phone.

Shuriken

What is Shuriken?

A harness for coding agents. It runs Claude Code, Codex and the rest on your own computers and servers, keeps every account you have in use, and lets you follow it all from your phone.

How is it different from running Claude Code in a terminal?

You get the same agent, plus: chats that move to another of your accounts at a limit, a branch of its own for each chat if you want one, a queue, Activity for subagents and workflows, a browser your agent can drive, voice, and your phone. You can still open any chat's folder in a terminal or your editor.

Which coding agents does it work with?

67 of them, from Claude Code and Codex to Gemini CLI, Copilot, Cursor and Amp.

Which accounts can I add?

Subscription sign-ins and API keys for Claude, ChatGPT (Codex), Gemini, Copilot, Cursor, Grok, Kimi, Qwen and more, several per provider, plus your own endpoints and local models (Ollama, LM Studio).

Can I use local models?

Yes. Add a source with your own endpoint: an Anthropic- or OpenAI-compatible address, or a model on your own machine through Ollama or LM Studio.

Why does Windows warn me the first time?

The Mac app is signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple, so it opens like any other app. The Windows app isn't code-signed yet, so the first time you open it, SmartScreen may warn you it's from an unknown publisher: if it says it protected your PC, choose More info › Run anyway. Download Shuriken only from shuriken.sh: our files come over HTTPS, and once it's installed, Shuriken checks every update against our release key before installing it.

Who makes Shuriken?

Enkova s. r. o., a company registered in Slovakia. Write to office@shuriken.sh. The address and company IDs are under Who we are in the Terms of Service.

Accounts and switching

When does Shuriken switch accounts?

When the account in use reaches your switch point (99% by default, anywhere from 50%) or hits a limit. Claude Code chats move on their next request, other agents when their turn ends.

Am I allowed to use several Claude accounts?

Anthropic's Consumer Terms forbid sharing a login or making your account available to anyone else. The version we read, effective 8 October 2025, doesn't say how many accounts one person may hold. Add only plans and keys you own and are entitled to use, and read the current terms yourself.

What does keeping session limits running mean?

Claude's session limit runs in 5-hour windows, and a window starts the first time you use an account, not when the last one ends. When one of your subscriptions has a window that hasn't started, Shuriken sends it one tiny request in the background, to the smallest model, so the window starts and its limit comes back sooner. That's one request per window, from the one computer the account is signed in on. It never shows in a chat or your history, and it counts toward that account's usage.

How do global MCPs work with several accounts?

You add an MCP server once and sign in to it once: the sign-in belongs to the server, not to a source. Assign it to any project, and switching accounts or projects never asks you to sign in again. Work and personal Notion? Add it twice, each with its own sign-in.

Do I pay Shuriken for usage?

No. Your agents run on your own Claude, ChatGPT and other subscriptions, or on your API keys, and those stay billed by their providers as they are now. Free costs nothing. Pro is €49 a month for Shuriken itself. We never send you a usage bill.

Running agents

Can I run several agents at once?

Yes. Each chat can get its own branch and worktree, and Shuriken sets no limit: your machine and your plans do.

Do idle chats keep using memory?

No. A chat that sits idle for 20 minutes goes to sleep: its agent closes to free memory, and your next message wakes it with its history. Running chats, chats waiting for you and queued chats stay awake. Change the time or turn it off in Settings › Chat › Sleep and archive.

Does my voice leave my computer?

Not by default. Your voice is turned into text on your own computer by NVIDIA Parakeet, a speech model that runs there, and it works offline once the model is downloaded. On your phone or in a browser, your voice travels end-to-end encrypted to your own computer, which transcribes it. If you pick a live speech provider in Settings › Dictation (ElevenLabs, AssemblyAI, Deepgram, Speechmatics or OpenAI) and add your own API key, your audio streams to that provider under your account instead. Silence is never sent.

Can teammates work in my project?

Yes, in beta. You both turn on Shared projects (beta) in Settings › Projects, then you invite them to one project by their Shuriken email: they send and queue in its chats, on your computer and with your sources, and you see who sent what. Anyone you share a project with gets the same access you have, so share only with people you trust fully.

Where do my agents run? Can you read my code?

On your own computers and servers, and no, we can't read your code. It stays on the computer the project is on and goes from there straight to your AI provider. Our cloud links your devices and runs no agents, and what travels between them is end-to-end encrypted. The exceptions, such as a dev server preview you open through shuriken.sh, are on the security page; the privacy policy lists what the cloud keeps.

Can you read my sign-ins and API keys?

No. They sit in your vault, encrypted on your device before they sync, and our cloud keeps the vault key only locked with a key made from your password. Anyone at Shuriken, or anyone with a copy of our database, gets ciphertext. One exception on Pro, when someone else keeps the same ChatGPT account signed in, is on the security page.

Do I need to keep the app open?

No. A background service keeps your agents running with the app closed, and a Mac can keep working with its lid shut. For a machine without a screen, add a server.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes: the web app works in any browser and installs to your home screen. Native apps for iPhone and Android are coming to the App Store and Google Play.

Plans and billing

Is Shuriken free?

Yes, there's a free plan with no end date: 2 sources and 2 linked devices, no card. Pro is €49 a month or €490 a year, 2 months free. See Pricing.

Is there a free trial of Pro?

Yes. Every new account starts with 14 days of Pro, free, with no card. When it ends you're on Free, which has no end date: nothing is deleted, and if you used more than Free allows, you choose what stays active. Upgrade during the trial and you pay from the day it ends, so the free days stay free. It's one trial per person and per card.

What's only in Pro?

Unlimited sources and linked devices, and a few features that are still in beta inside the app. Everything else is on Free too.

What counts as a linked device?

Each computer, server or phone app signed in to your account. Browsers don't count, and one machine counts once.

Who are Founding members?

Everyone who signed up before launch, with an account or with just their email address. They get Pro at no charge.

Can I cancel?

Any time, at shuriken.sh/cancel, with no sign-in needed. A monthly plan, and a yearly plan in its first year, run to the end of the period you paid for; after its first year a yearly plan ends at once and the unused whole months come back. Consumers can also withdraw within 14 days.

Still deciding?

Free needs no card and has no end date. Try it on your own accounts.
