Claude Code on its own vs Claude Code in Shuriken
Shuriken doesn't replace Claude Code; it runs it, and adds several accounts that take over from each other near a limit, a branch per chat if you want one, other agents beside Claude and your chats on every device. With one account and one computer, Claude Code on its own is often all you need.

Quick answer#
Shuriken doesn't replace Claude Code; it runs it. Claude Code is the agent that reads and writes your code. Shuriken is a harness around it: several accounts that take over from each other near a limit, a branch per chat if you want one, other agents beside Claude, and your chats on every device. With one account and one computer, Claude Code on its own is often all you need.
At a glance#
Claude Code facts are from Anthropic's docs, read on 23 October 2026.
| Claude Code on its own | Claude Code in Shuriken | |
|---|---|---|
| The agent | Claude Code | The same Claude Code CLI |
| Plans | Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or the Anthropic API (docs) | Your same Claude plan or key, plus Shuriken Free or Pro |
| Parallel sessions | claude -w <name> makes a worktree per session; --tmux adds a tmux session (docs) |
A worktree and branch per chat if you want one, made for you |
| Background sessions | claude --bg and agent view (claude agents) (docs) |
Agents keep running with the window closed, on your computers and servers |
| Several Claude accounts | One sign-in at a time per configuration; claude auth login / logout (docs) |
Every account you own, side by side |
| At a usage limit | Not covered in the CLI reference; --fallback-model switches model, not account (docs) |
Chats move to another of your sources and keep going |
| Other agents | Claude Code only | Codex, Gemini CLI and 64 more |
| From your phone | --remote-control connects claude.ai or the Claude app (docs) |
The web app in any phone browser; native apps coming in November 2026 |
| Extra cost | None | Free, or Pro at €49 a month (VAT included for EU consumers) |
What Claude Code does well on its own#
It's the source. Anthropic builds it; new features land there first, and there's nothing between you and them.
The CLI already does parallel work. claude --worktree feature-auth gives a session its own checkout and branch under .claude/worktrees/, and cleans it up when you exit with nothing in it (worktree docs). Add --tmux and each one gets its own tmux session; our tmux guide walks through it.
Background sessions and agent view. claude --bg "investigate the flaky test" starts a session that runs on its own; claude agents shows them all on one screen.
Remote Control. Start a session with --remote-control and continue it from claude.ai or the Claude app.
It's free with your plan. No second bill, no second company in the loop.
If that list covers your day, stay with it. We mean that.
Where Shuriken is different#
Several accounts, one chat. The CLI signs in to one account at a time per configuration. Shuriken holds every account and key you add, shows each one's 5-hour and weekly use side by side, and when the one in use nears its limit (99% by default) your chats move to the one with the most room. A Claude Code chat moves on its next request, subagents included. We call that hot swapping. Use only accounts you own and are entitled to use; providers' terms may not allow sharing a subscription sign-in.
Session limits. Claude's 5-hour window starts when an account is first used. When an account's window isn't running, Shuriken sends it one tiny request in the background, once per window, so its window starts and its limit comes back sooner. More in session limits.
Other agents in the same place. Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode and the rest run beside Claude Code, each with your own sign-ins.
Every device. Agents run on your computers and servers; you follow and steer them from any other device or a phone browser. The cloud only relays end-to-end encrypted messages.
The work around the chat. A queue for messages while the agent works, an Activity panel for subagents and background commands, and Finish to run your checks and merge or open a pull request.
Pricing#
Claude Code itself comes with your Claude plan. Shuriken adds nothing to that bill: your agents use your own plans and keys. Shuriken Free costs €0 with two sources and two linked devices, no card. Pro is €49 a month or €490 a year (2 months free), VAT included for EU consumers, for unlimited sources and devices. See Pricing.
Using them together#
This is the normal case. Your repository, CLAUDE.md, skills and commands are the same in both. You can open any Shuriken chat in Claude Code's own terminal interface, keep using claude in a terminal for quick things, and let Shuriken carry the long, parallel or multi-account work.

Frequently asked questions
Does Shuriken replace Claude Code?
No. Shuriken runs the Claude Code CLI on your own computer or server with your own Claude sign-in. It adds what sits around the agent: accounts, branches, devices and other agents.
When is Claude Code on its own enough?
With one Claude account, one computer and one or two sessions at a time, the CLI with --worktree and Remote Control covers most of it, at no extra cost.
Can I keep using the terminal if I use Shuriken?
Yes. Your repository, CLAUDE.md, commands and skills stay the same, and any Shuriken chat can be opened in Claude Code's own terminal interface.
Do I pay for Claude twice?
No. Claude Code comes with your Claude plan, and Shuriken uses that same plan. Shuriken never bills model usage; its Free plan costs nothing and Pro is €49 a month.
