How Claude's limits reset
Claude's paid plans have a session limit that resets every five hours and weekly limits that reset once every week [1]. Your own reset times are shown in Settings › Usage on claude.ai and in Claude Desktop.
A free limit reset is extra: Anthropic gives one to eligible plans now and then. When you choose to use it, your five-hour session limit or your weekly limit goes back to full right away, depending on the reset offered [2]. A Full reset refills both. It does not move your week: your weekly limits still reset on their usual day and time [2].
You use it in Settings › Usage on the web or in Claude Desktop with Reset for free; it cannot be undone, and an unused reset expires on the date shown [2]. The button is not in Claude Code or the mobile app, but limits are shared across your account, so a reset made on the web restores Claude Code too [2].
How Codex's limits reset
Codex counts local messages per five-hour period on Plus and Business; Pro plans currently have no five-hour limit, and weekly limits may also apply [1]. Your Codex usage dashboard shows your current limits and reset times [1].
Since June 2026 Codex can also bank a reset to use later: eligible Go, Plus, Pro and Business accounts got one to start [2], and a banked reset lasts 30 days unless the offer says otherwise [3]. Using one clears your usage limits at once instead of waiting for the window to roll over.

Questions
Is there a free Claude or Codex limit reset right now?
The box at the top of this page says so, live. When no Shuriken user has seen one on their account it says No live free reset seen right now, and shows the last one instead.
What is a free limit reset?
A one-off refill a provider gives eligible plans: used when you choose, it sets your 5-hour limit, your weekly limit or both back to full. Claude shows them in Settings › Usage; Codex calls them banked resets.
How do Claude and Codex usage limits reset?
Both count usage in a five-hour window and a weekly one. Claude's session limit resets every five hours and its weekly limits once a week; Codex counts five-hour periods on Plus and Business, and weekly limits may apply.
How does this page know about a new reset?
The Shuriken app reads each signed-in account's usage on the user's own computer. With Share anonymous reset sightings on, all it adds to this page's count is the provider, what the reset refills, when it expires and a coarse plan: never an account, a device or an address. A drop shows here once several users have seen it, or as soon as one of our own accounts has.
Can I get an e-mail when the next one drops?
Nobody announces them far ahead. This page shows a free reset as soon as Shuriken users see it on their own accounts, and you can sign up here to get auto-notified by e-mail when the next one drops.
Where these numbers come from
The history comes from the providers' own pages, their staff's posts and press that quotes them, each linked beside its row; we last checked it on . A live reset is shown once several people running the Shuriken app have seen it on their own accounts, or as soon as one of our own accounts has. What their app adds to this count is only the provider, what the reset refills, when it expires and a coarse plan: no account, device or address. You can read how on our security page.
